USA Cycling Awarded the 2025 INFORMS Edelman Award for Data-Driven Olympic Gold Strategy

BALTIMORE, MD, April 7, 2025 – INFORMS, the world’s largest association for professionals and students in operations research (O.R.), AI, analytics and data science, announced it has awarded USA Cycling its 2025 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research and Management Science, for its use of operations research (O.R.) and analytics in elite sports performance. With Project 4:05, USA Cycling transformed race strategy and athlete preparation, enabling the Women’s Team Pursuit to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Logistics Management Group News Editor Jeff Berman recently spoke with Rob Handfield, Professor at North Carolina State's Poole College of Management and Bank of America Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management. Handfield also serves as Executive Director of the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative, which adderesses thought leadership and research in the area of supply chain management, within the Poole College of Management, and a member of INFORMS, an international society for practitioners in the fields of operations research, management science, and analytics, where he also serves on its expert panel. Berman and Handfield discussed a wide range of topics, including the recent Suez Canal crisis, the emerging profile of the supply chain, and risk management, among other topics.
