My research interests span the quantitative aspects of marketing with a substantive focus in the areas of marketing strategy and customer relationship management.

Candidate Statement

INFORMS is in a good place. If elected as secretary, I commit to championing best practices in governance and reporting and support active stewardship of INFORMS activities and resources in support of our strategic plan, fostering transparency in their sources and uses. I will keep careful meetings minutes (linked to the strategic goals), be a resource for our past archived decisions (especially in how they support our strategic goals), and uphold the integrity of our elections.

I will work alongside the executive staff and other Board members to further enhance the quality, relevance, and reach of our impact on the science and technology of decision-making, and the diversity and inclusiveness of our community on multiple dimensions (career stage, demographics, and sub-field of focus, to name a few). I bring relevant administrative experiences at the professional society, school, university, and nonprofit levels. These include chairing the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science (ISMS) Marketing Science Conference (2x); co-founder and co-chair (3x) of the ISMS Early Career Camp; serving on the track organizing committee for four INFORMS Analytics Conferences; serving 11 years on the ISMS board (VP Membership, two terms; VP Meetings two terms; Treasurer; President-elect; current President); a past ERB member for Marketing Science and a past AE for Management Science. Together with my colleagues, we have stewarded ISMS to be a society noted for its large, inclusive annual conference, innovative professional development programming, and commitment to developing the next generation of scholars, all while sustaining a strong financial position.

My activities outside of INFORMS have included the ERB of several leading marketing journals including IJRM, JAMS, JM, and JMR, chairing the AMA’s Advanced Research Techniques Forum, chairing the AMA Analytics Council, and serving on the AMA Audit Committee. At Emory, I have served as Area Coordinator, Senior Associate Dean (2x, including development and external relations), and chaired the University Research Council, to name a few. I am president and past treasurer of a 501(c)3 nonprofit (Sheth Foundation) that supports scholarly activities and recognition through grants to several academic societies.

I am comfortable providing the combination of perspective, innovative thinking, and attention to detail needed to be effective in an administrative role. Fun fact: I am a (nonpracticing) CPA/CMA. In addition to my perspective as a marketer from being a marketing scholar (branding; customer management), I am comfortable bringing a financial perspective to the role where/when applicable.

The secretary’s duties include working with the development staff. I spent five years as senior associate dean for external relations at Emory, in which I worked closely with our development staff (dotted-line reporting relationship to me). I am comfortable helping here.

It has been a privilege to serve the INFORMS community in various volunteer roles over the years, helping to strengthen our position of prominence and ensure our health and vigor. I am at a career stage where I can provide the needed time/energy and perspective to this role. INFORMS is my professional home. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities INFORMS has created for me over the years and feel a strong desire to give back.
